Dear LYS families:
It has been a very difficult time for all of us during these last few months. It has been a tremendous time of transition and change and I sincerely hope and pray that everyone is safe and that you have been able to keep your sanity given everything that is going on. During this time of great social change I know that many of you have shown solidarity with each other and those affected most by the pandemic and protests. This update letter also announces change and hope in the LYS community. First, we are announcing that Frankie Gonzalez (aka Frankie Flo) will be taking over as our new director, and long time LYS member, Vince Grady (aka Spinny Vinny), will be resigning after almost 15 years of involvement with the program. He and his family have moved to Wilmington, DE to be closer to his aging parents and he is beginning a new chapter in his home state of Delaware. Spinny Vinny regrets not having an opportunity to say goodbye to everyone in person, and will be missed, but I am sure that he will pop in before the end of the season to check in on everyone. Frankie is super excited to be starting up the program after such a long break and cannot wait to see everyone. In an effort to ensure that we do not lose our permit, we have decided to start classes this week (tomorrow), also as a way to gauge interest and participation, and we will be kicking into full gear starting next week. In an effort to keep everyone safe, we will be following the COVID protocol that has been laid out by the parks department and the health department. In an effort to keep everyone safe we are asking that all parties adhere to these guidelines: 1) All children/parents undergo a quick screening before beginning play (a few questions/temp check). 2) Only 1 parent attend the class per child. 3) All coaches wear face masks. 4) Children wear masks before and after class (although they can remote during drills and activities). 5) Belongings should be social distanced (6 feet). 6) No shared equipment. 7) Each kid bring their own ball if possible. 8) Soccer equipment be sanitized after each class. 9) Parents sign COVID waiver (to be given out onsite). We are living in precarious and unprecedented times. We believe that allowing children to play, while minimizing risk, is an important step to maintaining the health of our community. Should you have any questions or concerns please to Frankie Gonzalez at 505 603-6003 or Jacob Craycroft (646) 734-0765. Be safe all. LYS (Spinny Vinny and Adriana Olivares and crew) |
